Snow Day Face + Things I’m Loving This Month

Today I had lots of time to get ready, so I went full-face today. 🙂 I went shopping, bought a new great purse and hat, some pet necessities, and a baby knitting book for some friends of mine who are expecting.

(my new vegan faux leather purse/backpack with lots of pockets!)

For the look I used the new-to-me technique, tight lining, with light bronze and taupe eye makeup, and several of this month’s makeup favorites.

FACE- smashbox powder foundation, nars laguna bronzer, milani luminoso blush

BROWS- anastasia beverly hills dipbrow in dark brown, sonia kashuk clear brow gel

EYES- tarte golden days and sultry days amazonian clay palette, nyx black liner in bottom and upper lashline, tarte gifted mascara, clinique bottom lash mascara

LIPS- rimmel east end snob lip liner, buxom white russian lip gloss

Things I’m Loving This Month

-smashbox powder foundation. It works great over my moisturizer and primers, and it isn’t drying at all. The coverage is great, and it is super quick to apply with my real techniques powder and buffing face brushes. I’ve been getting compliments ever since I started using this this month.

-rimmel lip liner in east end snob. It is the perfect pinky nude, and I hear it is a dupe for Charlotte Tilbury’s liner in pillow talk, which is a splurge. It works very well for my fair skin tone and lasts a while, even though it is creamy to apply.

-milani baked blush in luminoso. This will travel with me into spring. It seems perfect for all seasons, and it brings such dimension and glow to the face! I haven’t touched another blush in weeks.

-tight lining. This new trick is a little uncomfortable, but it is so brightening and makes my lashes seem to go on for days! A new favorite, for sure.

Well, I hope you enjoy your snow day if you have one!

xoxo,

Martha

tomboy makeup

I decided to rep my boys this morning. They are amazing in many ways, and they also helped me cover up a truly awful hair day this morning. When you have a pixie cut, you really have to get it cut every ~month. It’s been about 2 weeks over and I hate it!

But my makeup looks nice today. And I hit pan on an eyeshadow for the first time in my life!

Rose Gold Eyes and Bold Brows after Sunday Spa-day

After a perfumed bath featuring Lolita Lempicka by Lolita Lempicka, I used two face masks: an AHA peel by Alba and a scar-lightening mask by Garnier. Then I decided to play with makeup for a rose gold look, a tiny winged eyeliner, and a nude lip with my naturally bold brows (and the help of a pencil).

Blush Tag!

Blush is my absolute favorite part of my makeup routine. It adds dimension and glow to the face, and it can really add intensity or subtlety to any eye/lip look. I love creams, powders, gels, sticks, you name it! On to the questions:

1) How many blushes do you own?

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/f11/81081072/files/2014/12/img_2682.jpg

Oh my God, 19!! I have a problem!

2) What is your favorite blush brush?

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/f11/81081072/files/2014/12/img_2684.jpg

I have two… three if you count my fingertips. 🙂 But for most blushes, I use my Sephora PRO Blush contour #74, and for extremely pigmented products I use my MUA Professional stippling brush. They’re both very soft, durable, and put the product where I want it.

3) Creams or powders?

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/f11/81081072/files/2014/12/img_2685.jpg

I’m going to have to go rogue and say gels, especially for winter! I only own one of them, but it applies so smoothly and looks the most natural.

4) Peach vs. Pink and favorites of each?

For my complexion, peach, but I love both colors. It really depends on what I do with my lips that day.

Favorite peach: NARS Orgasm

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/f11/81081072/files/2014/12/img_2686.jpg

Favorite pink: Physician’s Formula Rose Pearl

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/f11/81081072/files/2014/12/img_2687.jpg

Can you tell I’m a shimmer fan? 🙂

5) Drugstore vs. high end and favorites of each?

I only have two high end blushes, NARS and Josie Maran, and I reach for them often, but I’m going to have to say drugstore simply for the Milani baked blushes.

Favorite drugstore blushes: Physician’s Formula Rose Pearl and Milani Baked Blushes in Luminoso and Red Vino.

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/f11/81081072/files/2014/12/img_2688.jpg

Favorite high end blushes: my only two, NARS Orgasm and Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelée in Poppy Paradise.

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/f11/81081072/files/2014/12/img_2689.jpg

6) Most overrated?

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/f11/81081072/files/2014/12/img_2690.jpg

These bad boys, the Maybelline master GLAZE Blush Sticks (in Just-Pinched Pink and Coral Sheen). They are okay, but need to be set with a powder blush in a similar color to last at all.

7) Most underrated?

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/f11/81081072/files/2014/12/img_2691.jpg

Milani Baked Blush in Red Vino. You have to go easy on her because she is deep and richly pigmented, but after application with a stippling brush you get the perfect “snow-kissed” glow! And it’s only, like, $7!

8) Worth the hype?

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/f11/81081072/files/2014/12/img_2692.jpg

Definitely Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso!! It is perfect for fair skin. It looks better on a face than the back of my hand, but you can still appreciate the dewiness, depth, and glow that Luminoso provides.

9) Top 5 blushes everyone should own?

I can’t speak for all that’s out there, but I certainly think everyone could use these out of my collection:

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/f11/81081072/files/2014/12/img_2693.jpg

There’s a bright coral (orgasm), a hydrating red (poppy paradise gel), a pink (rose pearl), a look-at-my-skin-glow (luminoso), and a deep berry (red vino). All but the poppy shade are shimmery. What can I say, I’m 22!

10) What blushes are on your wish list?

NONE! Not until I use some up and give some away! I’m on a makeup using-up and gifting mission! But I have been eyeing a few by Too Faced, The Balm, and Bobbi Brown… 😉

I’d like to thank tatt2sandwarpaint for introducing me to this tag, and I tag all blush-lovers out there!

Daytime look/GRWM for the next long while

If you saw my last post, you know I’m using up 10 fabulous products via slathering them on my face every day. I chose 10 of my favorites, and here is a little get-ready-with-me using them all.

First, I cleanse, moisturize, and prime the skin. Today, I also did a face mask.

photo 2

Cetaphil, Garnier dark spot mask, CVS knock-off of Cerave daytime moisturizer with SPF, and primers: Cover FX with salicylic acid, Maybelline Baby Skin, and Garnier 5sec Blur. As always, some Burt’s Bees to top it off.

after all that, my face is ready to go.

Can’t stand that little thing on my chin! Oh well, let’s cover it up.

And after my daytime eye look, along with bronzer, blush, and highlight, and my Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in fig jam:

There we are! My daytime look until I’ve made room for a few more products… 🙂

Project Pan for a Daytime Look

Hello lovelies! As a makeup addict, I’ve decided to halt all makeup buying (gasp!!) until I’ve used up 10 makeup products. To accomplish this, I’ll be limiting my daytime look to these 10 products. I’ve chosen products that I know perform very well and that I love. I can use any products from my collection for any nighttime/special occasion look.

The products:

face

foundation – Clinique acne solutions

concealer – Clinique acne solutions sample

powder: Rimmel stay matte

blush/bronzer: NARS laguna and orgasm

highlighter: Physician’s Formula mineral glow pearls

eyeshadow: Sonia Kashuk eye on neutral shimmer palette

eyeliner/mascara: Physician’s Formula Eye BOOSTER liner and Organic Wear mascara, both in black

I love all these products dearly. The Clinique foundation and concealer provides excellent coverage while helping to clear any breakouts. NARS orgasm/laguna is perfect for brightening up my fair skin (I did have a hard time settling on a blush to use for possibly months, though!). I have been using my glow pearls for a few months and haven’t seen any dent, but I’ll happily use this product until it’s all gone and buy another! It provides a very subtle glow to my cheekbones, nose, forehead, and chin. I went for a fairly bold every day eye look with black liquid liner and mascara, but the formula is so smooth and I really need practice with this type of liner. Supposedly it also acts as an eyelash serum, so I’ll report back on that when it dries up! And the Sonia Kashuk palette is a great neutral shimmer palette. I plan on using up three of the shades. As for my lips, I went for a MLBB shade — fig jam by Revlon. It is moisturizing enough for the daytime, a shade darker than my lips, and it makes me look more awake and put together. If I don’t repurchase it when it’s gone, I’ll go for its cousin: Clinique black honey.

Coming soon — the daytime look featuring these products.

xoxo,

Martha
