Can they even legally do that? I am so out of touch with laws concerning the workplace.

Let us know how that goes. I’m sorry they were stupid. I hope the pain has gone down today. Feeling better from that?

Yeah I just keep on taking the painkillers every 4 hours as written, and the swelling is down a lot. Thank you for asking

I didn’t tell them I’m bipolar, just said a med made me dizzy sometimes. But it literally had not happened at work. I think they just fired me because of my dental emergency/surgery/recovery time.

That makes it even more stupid. It’s not your fault your teeth decided to have a pain party right when you started. Ugh. That’s horrible.

They sound to me like a bigger liability being such fickle employers. Also — glad you’re doing better from the dental surgery.

Yeah, I told my manager when I was hired that I took Rx meds for “a chronic disorder” that make me occasionally dizzy. And she said we would talk about it at 3 week evaluation. I never got dizzy at work because I never sat down.

So I worked a week, then I had a dental emergency (huge infection to treat and also necessary surgical removal of four wisdom teeth that cause infection and horrible pain). I had to treat this ASAP as the pain hit suddenly and was at a serious level 10. As in I was sobbing from pain and unable to do anything. So I kept them up to date on surgery delays due to weather and infection, and everything is fine… but the day after surgery I call her to tell her when I can go back and she says I’m a liability because I might faint and lose all of the dogs. Souuuuunds like bullshit to me.

Thankfully I live in a big city where I can find free legal advice.

But I’m really torn up about it still. I’m going to apply at all the vets/kennels/shelters I can find starting on Monday, though. At least now I know something I enjoy doing that can make money.

and I specifically said, about the dizziness, “but I have never fainted from these medications”

so she pulled that one directly out of her asshole

Frankly, they turned out to be assholes, so it’s good (long term) that you’re not working there anymore. But of course it’d have been way better if you could have looked for a new job before leaving that one. And them being assholes means the job would very likely have hammered you with stress sooner or later – and you are bipolar and stress is bloody toxic for people like us.

        So fuckem.

It’s great that you found the silver lining in such a shitty experience. You weren’t fired for the way you worked, or who you are, so don’t let it knock your confidence. And let’s make a voodoo doll of that manager …
